A refurbishment of the venerable 19th century Central Hotel including an added floor and bedroom block to the Dame Court façade. The metal clad rooftop extension brings to mind a Victorian mansard roof. The new extension has an undulating façade with metal cladding, the perforated patterns of which is inspired by the urban grain of old maps. Here, the architects drew their inspiration from the detail of the area in John Roque’s Dublin map of 1756. The extension is a good example of a modern addition to an older building respecting existing horizontal lines but bringing something new to the varied streetscape.
