After being used as a branck of Bank of Montreal for many years, now a dental surgery. Bank of Montreal had taken over the Merchants Bank in 1923. Prior to 1973, Galt was an independent city, incorporated in 1915, but amalgamation with the village of Hespeler, the town of Preston and the village of Blair formed the new municipality of Cambridge. Being the largest constituent community in the city, it is commonly seen as the downtown core of Cambridge.

“The plan for the branch was to make the banking rooms themselves as large as possible. For this reason the managers’ rooms, formed of wooden screens, are part of the main banking room. The staffs’ lavatories, etc., take up as little space as consistent with convenient arrangements. In Gait the buildings adjacent to the new Bank were low and a one storey building was erected.”
