1957 – Bear Pit, Assiniboine Zoo, Winnipeg
Architect: Smith Carter Katelnikoff
Absolutely impossible to think that a concrete enclosure such as this could be built in a zoo today. Built in a couple of stages, constructed in a couple of stages and designed with three sections to contain grizzly bears, black bears, and polar bears. Appallingly bleak with a concrete dry moat to separate the animals from the viewing public.
