1915 – Government Normal School, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
Architect: Storey & Van Egmond
The term “normal school” is derived from the French école Normale, an institution that provided instruction in the “norms” of school instruction. The term was first adopted by training institutions in eastern Canada in the mid-19th century. Designed in the collegiate-Gothic style, the first classes were held there in January 1914 and the building was fully completed in 1915. Normal schools were also opened in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw in the 1920s. The Normal School building was internally gutted in 2002 and, with its historical façade intact, and redeveloped as the Canada-Saskatchewan Production Studios.
