Constructed for Joseph Grout Williams in 1872, it has been a country house hotel since 1987. The present building was designed in a neo-Jacobean style and built in red brick with Bath stone dressings. Prominant Architectural features include the half-timbered jettied top floor, the tall decorated brick chimney pots, and the square tower with an ogee-shaped lead roof.
