1901 – Aston Webb Proposal for Queen Victoria Memorial, London
Architect: Sir Architect: Aston Webb
Massively over-blown design for a vast memorial to Queen Victoria outside Buckingham Palace.
“The plan shows the ingenious connexion with Charing Cross by means of a circle, to which we have elsewhere referred. The actual entrance from Charing Cross will be by a decorated gateway without an arch. The points opposite to the Duke of York steps and Marlborough Gate are emphasised, as will be observed, by the formation of an octagonal place at each point, with pedestals arranged for special sculpture subjects.”
