1901 – Manager’s & Foreman’s Cottages, Sileby, Leicestershire
Architect: G. Lawton Brown
Sileby is a former industrial village that industrialised heavily over the Victorian period, with several hosiery and shoe factories present in the village. Nearly all of these have now disappeared, the factory premises have long since been demolished and replaced by new housing estates. A feature of these factories were the cheaper wages paid to their workers in comparison to their counterparts in Leicester. This design was for housing for managment and foreman of Walker, Kempson & Stevens Ltd, Boot and Shoe Manufacturers and Merchants.
