1883 – Swiss Building, 137 Bannatyne Avenue, Winnipeg
Architect: Mancel Willmot & George W. Stewart
Originally designed and constructed 1882-1883 for the wholesale grocery business of Turner, McKeand, and Company. One of a stylistic pair, this in buff brick with its twin (No.141 Bannatyne) finished in red brick. In 1903 architect John H.G. Russell designed a four-storey addition at 141 Bannatyne between Willmot and Stewart’s twin structures. The original No.141 is now gone, but the 1903 extension remains with its visual ties to No. 137. In 1987, this was one of the first buildings in the Exchange comverted to residential condominiums.
