Central Collegiate school was the first structure in Calgary designed specifically for secondary education. It was one of 18 sandstone schools built in Calgary between 1892-1914, and probably the most elaborately detailed and picturesque, a rare example of the Scottish Baronial style. Its external features include large rock-faced sandstone, bartizan turrets, and a steeply pitched roof with dormers. It has separate boys’ and girls’ entrances that are still visible today. Now the headquarters of the Calgary Board of Education.
