1963 – 825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg
Architect: Macleod Reimer & Webster
Remarkably fresh looking today, 825 Sherbrook Street housed Western Canada’s first pre-school for Deaf children, the Kinsmen Centre for the Handicapped, which included “special rooms for individual speech therapy”. The architects Macleod Reimer & Webster were clearly exploring undulating façade treatments at this time – a building from the same year, the offices of Credit Foncier Franco-Canadien at 286 Smith Street similarly features an angular design across the façade. Currently a two-storey glass and steel extension upwards is being marketing by a leasing company.
