1972 – Goulding House, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow
Architect: Ronnie Tallon, Michael Scott & Partners
Built as a summerhouse for Sir Basil Goulding, a keen gardener and art collector, who wanted as little of the garden and river valley, at Dargle Lodge, to be disturbed as possible by the house. The answer to this was to cantilever a steel structure 10 metres out and over the River Dargle, and anchor it to the bedrock with two steep legs. The front elevation and rear elevations facing the river are glazed and the sides clad in Cedar wood panels.
