1972 – Dublin Corporation Flats, Islandbridge, Dublin

Architect: J McDaid, Dublin City Architects Department

0530

Dublin Corporation, now City Council, had several models of public housing. This version, of five floors, two two-storey maisonettes stacked over single-storey ground floor flats was quite common. The typology also allowed for a three-storey version. Some locations had flat roofs, some hipped, they were widely spread around the city. They remain in use, but many have been replaced with traditional houses. These two blocks, one of three floors, the other five at ninety degrees to each other are opposite the Islandbridge Gate to the Phoenix Park.
