An impressive Art Deco building built as part of a much larger scheme for Galway Hospital. A lovely example of regionalism in an international movement with the local stone being used at the lower level. The original design for the whole hospital was by the firm of architects T.J. Cullen & Co in 1932, but this ended up being the only part of the original plan constructed. Further developments were not carried out until after the Second World War, to a different design but by the same architects. At this point, the Nurses Home was also extended to the west. Now used mainly for offices and training but with some doctors’ accommodation.
