The first high school classes in Winnipeg were held in September 1882; however it was 1891 before the Winnipeg School Board chose a site to build a dedicated High School at William Avenue. Designed by architect Hugh McCowan, it had classrooms on the first and second floors, and smaller rooms and a large assembly hall on the third floor. Its initial enrolment was 360 students. It cost over of $30,000 to construct. By 1915, the high school had moved out, to make way for an elementary school. Closed and demolished in 1928, and a new school built on the site.
