A central hub for blending, packaging, and distributing tea, this Lyons factory was a major employer in the local area, providing jobs for hundreds of people. The large Davitt Road premises helped Lyons expand its production to meet growing demand in Ireland. After the brand was bought by the multinational Unilever, the building continued to play a crucial role in production until its closure in the early 2000s. A very modern design, it had large amounts of glazing to all areas. It had a striking roof profile with the work floor lit from above, not by the usual sawtooth angled roof lights popular at the time but a more considered design of a row of rectangular forms breaking upwards with glazing on two sides. Now demolished.
