1958 – Corporation Flats, Hogan Place, Dublin
Architect: Charles McNamara, Dublin Corporation Housing Architect
Corporation flats constructed by G. & T. Crampton for Dublin Corporation, sometimes attributed to Herbert Simms but he had died a decade before, in 1948. Probably designed by Acting Housing Architect Charles McNamara in the mid 1950s. Shortly afterwards Daithí P. Hanly was appointed Dublin Housing Architect in 1956 and was responsible for the design of four and five-storey blocks of flats throughout the city. In 1959 the Corporation merged the positions of housing architect and city architect and he became Dublin city architect, responsible for all housing and civic architecture – a position he held until his resignation in 1965.
