Designed by Edward Newenham, of Clifford Smith & Newenham, who owned the Lakeside Hotel at the time. The first Killaloe Country Club was a small leisure facility which was opened by Donald Campbell, of Bluebird fame. His son Hector Newenham is credited with introducing water skiing to Ireland in 1956 and being a founder member of Killaloe Sailing Club. By the late 60s the country Club was extended to include an outdoor pool area and a larger marina. Officially opened September 13 1969 by the Chair of Bord Failte, Brendan O’Regan.
