1964 – ECCO Factory, Dundalk, Co. Louth
Architect: Ronnie Tallon, Michael Scott & Partners
Built with government aid for the General Electric Company of Ireland, based in nearby Dunleer, in the early 1960s. Taken over in 1966 by ECCO (Electronics Components Company Overseas), owned by General Electric and then become the town’s leading employer by 1973, employing around 1,500 people at its peak. Closed in 2006 after a long period of decline. Originally 150,000 sq foot in size, planning was received in 2019 to remove one of the bays to divide it into two separate buildings. The buildings where then refurbished. Winner of the RIAI Gold Medal 1962–1964.
