1829 – Rathkenny House, Cootehill, Co. Cavan

Architect: William Farrell

A sizeable four-square Regency-style house built in the late 1820s for Theophilus Lucas-Clements to the design of William Farrell. A formal exterior framed by double-height pilasters, using contrasting details in sandstone and finely wrought limestone to create an impression. Built with money given to Theophilus “by his cousin, Harriet, whose father, Captain John Clements, made a considerable fortune commanding a ship in the East India Company service”. A description from a property sale advertisement in 1950 gives a good description of the rooms in the house.
