1864 – Lighthouse, Blacksod, Co. Mayo

0075

An unusual design, the two storey keeper’s house is made of local granite blocks, with a small cylindrical lantern section, which is painted white. Weather observations by the Blacksod Lighthouse keepers of approaching bad weather fronts caused Eisenhower to delay the Normandy landings until 6 June 1944, when conditions were more favourable.

Map is being rolled out, not all buildings are mapped yet.
