After the failure of Anglo Irish Bank in late 2008, the concrete structure of its new headquarters sat on North Wall Quay. The German company supplying the “no expense spared” glazing resorted to legal proceedings in an attempt to recoup some of its losses. Eventually the Central Bank of Ireland purchased the structure in 2012 and commissioned Henry J. Lyons & Partners to complete it as a new building for their needs.

The glazed exterior is broken up by a secondary perforated angular metal skin that acts as brise-soleil and creates visual interest. The triangular panels increase in quantity from the cooler north side to the sunnier south façade of the building, flowing around the exterior.

The heart of the interior is a large atrium containing stairs and transversing walkways. Described as “meanders from floor to floor inviting collaboration and good will throughout all of the various departments of the Central Bank.” It features collaboration spaces and its design allows easy access throughout the building and the floors.
