2015 – University Campus UTEC, Lima, Peru
Situated on a tight and difficult site with a busy motorway to one side and the low-rise urban edge of the city on the other, the University of Technology and Engineering, UTEC Lima, is a vertical and layered building conceived as a ‘new cliff’. Intended to continue the sea edge, yet clearly stating and defining the University on its new ground. The design was chosen after an architectural competition held in 2011.
The Irish firm, Grafton Architects positioned the special use rooms of the University including the auditorium, the conference rooms, the theatre / movie venue, at the base of the ‘cliff’ face, marking the northern boundary to the highway, encouraging cultural interaction with the wider public.
