“This design was chosen last December, in an “open” competition, for the first place by Mr. S. W. Beaumont, F.E.I. B..\., Manchester, the assessor appointed by the corporation. The building will be simple in character and detail, stone faced, and is estimated to costabout £10,OUO. Messrs. Woodhouse and Willoughby, of Manchester, are the architects, the working drawings for which are now being prepared.” Published in The Building News, April 29, 1898.
