RIAI Exhibition to celebrate RKD

2013 marks 100 years of practice for RKD Architects. To celebrate this important milestone, the RIAI is hosting an exhibition of RKD’s work over the past century. It will take place from 25th November until 20th December at the RIAI, No 8 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.

This exhibition will trace RKD’s roots back to 1913 when Johnny Robinson & Cyril (“Dick”) Keefe established the practice. They had a reputation for embracing modernism and high quality design. The exhibition will present the buildings designed by RKD over three generations and will show the evolution of the practice’s design philosophy over this period and visitors will see how the work of RKD helped to shape the architectural landscape in Ireland.

Many of Dublin’s well-known buildings such as AIB Bankcentre, Ballsbridge, the Carlton Cinema, Carrolls, Mespil Road, Guinness Storehouse, Independent Newspapers, Citywest, Trinity College Biosciences to name but few, have been designed by RKD.

A series of lunchtime lectures will take place during the exhibition and will feature eminent speakers including Dr Ellen Rowley from Trinity College, Brian Ward from Dublin Institute of Technology and architect and lecturer at Limerick University, Peter Carroll. Details of these will be available at www.riai.ie and www.rkd.ie
