2011 – Richardson International Airport, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Winnipeg’s airport terminal was designed by Argentine architect Cesar Pelli and Stantec and replaced a mid century modernist terminal. It was the first airport terminal in Canada to be LEED-certified for its environmentally friendly concept, design, construction and operation. Construction began in 2007 and ended on October 30, 2011.

All modern airports tend to suffer from a nowhere-ness and an everywhere-ness at once, and Winnipeg is no different. With no discernible local characteristics, it is a bright airy space designed to exit arriving passengers quickly while trapping departing customers in the retail facilities of air side.
