The Civic Centre provides a ‘one-stop-shop’ facility for the mass housing estates that surround it. The public use this facility to pay local taxes, inspect planning files and hold public meetings. The skeleton of the building is in-situ concrete, exposed throughout, with timber and glass infill screens. The intention of this project was to make a modern public building which will have an accessible, welcoming, civic character; a building which will improve with the patina of time, has an integrated approach to services and flexibility, and minimises the need for mechanical heating and cooling
