1996 – Meetinghouse Square, Temple Bar, Dublin

Meetinghouse Square is one of the new urban spaces created within Temple Bar. Designed as a multi-use space, the area is used for open air screenings of movies, theatre, and music recitals. By placing a stage in the rere of The Ark and a projection room in the Photographic Archive, the space is fully utilised during summer evenings. The space is enclosed by new building and contains 4 access points. One of these continues the pedestrian way formed by the new curved street.

The square is bounded by the Gallery of Photography, the National Photographic Archive and DIT School of Photography – together known as the Irish Photographic Centre, The Ark Cultural Centre for Children, the Irish Film Centre and a multi-use building containing a restaurant and the Gaiety School of Acting. In 2013, vast umbrellas were installed to make events in the space less weather dependent. The Square is accessible through passageways from Sycamore Street, Eustace Street, the raised courtyard to the rere of the Irish Film Centre and through a short curved street beside the Photographic Archives.
