1992 – Samuel Beckett Theatre, Trinity College Dublin
Architect: de Blacam & Meagher
The Samuel Beckett Theatre, named after one of the most innovative playwrights of the 20th century, was opened in 1992 to celebrate the quatercentenary of Trinity College Dublin. The Beckett Theatre includes three theatres, 200 seat studio theatre for the drama department, 75 seat player’s theatre and dance studio with attendant relevant changing rooms and classrooms. de Blacam & Meagher say they were “nspired by the thought of an oak cabinet for a black box theatre” with the south façade creating a small square at a place known as the Narrows in the College. It incorporates a terrace of houses to rear (north) built c.1830.
