1989 – International Conference Centre, Dublin Castle
Architect: Klaus Unger, Office of Public Works
After its restoration by the Office of Public Works, conference facilities were added, so that the Castle could be used by the State when Ireland hosts the Presidency of the European Union. These facilities are beside the Ship Street entrance and the Bermingham Tower, and wrap around the Upper Yard in a collection of modern and renovated buildings. A sometimes accessible pedestrian route, up the staircase in the photograph, leads to a raised garden behind the high walls on Castle Street.
