1980 – The Roadstone book of House Designs #11
Published from The Roadstone book of House Designs, produced in 1980. Billed as “A guide to building your own home with 25 new house designs by Reg Chandler, Des Doyle, Arthur Gibney, Ray MacDonnell, and Allan O’Regan. Described as “specially designed to take advantage of a sloping or hilly site. By using the existing slope instead of flattening it, a pleasing complexity and variety of space can be incorporated in the design. On the lower ground floor, there are three bedrooms, on the first floor a large lounge/dining area, a separate study and a fitted kitchen. It is entered through an energy saving double porch into a small hall with stairs to the first floor. The hall also gives access to a toilet and cloakroom, to the study and to the lower ground floor stairs. It is lit by a clerestory window above the stairs. The first flooor contains the kitchen and the combined lounge/dining area which between them occupy the entire length of the house. The dining table is placed opposite a projecting bay window and the lounge is spaciously comfortable. Clerestory windows high on the wall beside the fireplace give extra light. The construction is in traditional Irish materials – and finished in white rendered blockwork with contrasting concrete roof tiles.”
