1978 – Matt Talbot Bridge, Dublin
Architect: De Leuw, Chadwick and O’hEocha Consulting Engineers
Planned for many years to create a clockwise traffic flow up and down the quays, construction started in 1976. A three-span beam bridge was adopted with two north and south spans of 22m and a centre span of 34m. The bridge marks the furthest point up to the Liffey to which tall ships may travel, as the bridges downriver can open – either swingbridges or bascule.
