Lost some of the muscularity of the design now that the ground level has been filled in and windows inserted above, taking away the drama of the brick cylindrical stairwell which comes down to street level. Built as a mens’ sporting club, The Carlton Club was designed with an exercise room, squash courts, locker rooms and related facilities, dining/banquet rooms, kitchen, billiards, and lounges. These facilities were spread over four levels, connected the circular staircase and elevators. The basement included the gym, health centre, four regulation-sized squash courts, a sauna, and steam rooms.

A large facility, over 37,000 square feet, the changing economy meant its demise even as they allowed women members in the early 90s. Closed in 1996, a variety of uses since including an English pub and now a yoga centre.
