1973 – Unbuilt scheme for Findlater Place, Dublin

Architect: Martin Reynolds

2956

“The perspective illustrates an interesting small development that has recently been abandoned. The site was at the rear of the Findlater premises in Upper O’Connell Street where the Ronald Lyon Group is building a large block of offices with shops at ground level. The abandoned proposal was for an interesting mixture of shops, offices, flats and carparking. The carparking was underground, with access by a ramp. This left a space at the rear of the ground floor shops to be used as a landscaped courtyard. Three floors of offices were proposed over the shops. The top floor was to be two very large luxury flats, and this is the main interest of the scheme. A small roof garden was proposed for behind the high parapet, to be used in conjunction with the flats and offices. The interesting facade treatment of five large arches was intended to reflect the five arched facade of the small church nearby. Outline planning permission was obtained for the scheme without any difficulty, but the proposal has now been abandoned. The architect was Martin Reynolds dip.arch., of 41 Upper Leeson street, Dublin 4.”
