1973 – Speculative Office Scheme, Trinity Street, Dublin
Architect: Barry & Associates
To be built on site of the former Moira Hotel, which closed in 1973. This scheme never progressed, the site remaining empty for some years. Originally the hotel was bought from Jury’s Hotels by developer Jim Stafford of Wexford. According to Frank McDonald in “The Destruction of Dublin”, his business collapsed in 1974 with the hotel sold on at around £130,000 to Vico Estates in 1978, another speculative developer. Here they made a financial killing, demolishing the old hotel and selling on the site for £900,000 in 1982. A market collapse meant the building was never developed and it stayed as a surface carpark for some years.
