1969 – The Ardree Hotel, Waterford

0066

Opened in the 1960s, the hotel had 160 beds and was the premier destination for visitors to the city for many years. It was extremely popular with tourists from all over Ireland and beyond due perhaps to its location overlooking the city. A large 6 storey block, the building is quite prominent on the hillside across the Suir. The Jurys hotel group eventually took over as part of their expansion in the mid 1990s but sold it again a few years later, when it became the McEniff Ard Rí Hotel. Closed after a fire in 2005. Sitting derelict for many years, most of the former hotel buildings have been demolished, apart from the six-storey accommodation block.
