An extension added to the north side of the National Gallery in the late 1960s by the Office of Public Works. A plain stone-clad box externally, its most dramatic feature is the fabulous curving and cantilevered staircase running the height of the building, toplit allowing light to float down. It’s impact now much reduced by the addition of a elevator in the centre. Now known as the Beit Wing.
