1969 – Church of St Laurence O’Toole, Kilmacud, Co. Dublin
Architect: Stephenson Gibney & Associates
In the early 1960s the chapel in Kilmacud was proving to be much too small for the growing population, and it was recognised that a new church was needed. The Sisters of Our Lady of Charity donated a site, and the Church of St Laurence O’Toole was opened on December 14, 1969, by the archbishop of the time, John Charles McQuaid. The large interior space is largely finished in brick with an expansive timber roof – clerestory windows are of clear glass. The exterior is finished in more brick and with a large copper clad roof. Refurbished in 2016 by GKMP Architects.
