1969 – An Foras Talúntais Laboratory, Fermoy, Co. Cork
Architect: Roy Mulleady
To foster agricultural research An Foras Talúntais (the Agricultural Institute) was set up in 1958. A series of low buildings set around a paved courtyard. The original buildings are now much extended but still just about be discerned – the courtyard has been filled in. Now known as Moorepark, it is one of the world’s leading dairy research centres and specialises in pasture-based systems of milk production.
In 1988 Teagasc succeeded An Foras Talúntais which was responsible for agricultural research, and An Chomhairle Oiliúna Talmhaíochta, the Agricultural Training Council (ACOT), which was responsible for education and advisory services.
