1968 – Former Ryan’s Hotel, Killarney, Co. Kerry

One of several large sprawling hotels for the Ryan Hotel group by Stephenson Gibney & Associates – the others in Galway, Sligo and Limerick. 1960s Ireland saw many new purpose built hotels built to capture foreign visitors. Stephenson Gibney’s hotels featured long low bedroom wings surrounded by large green spaces with taller staircase blocks to the ends. The Killarney hotel had 168 rooms, and featured a wider palette of materials including brick and roughly finished concrete. Now the Hotel Killarney after being sold several times during the early 21st century, beginning in 2003 by the Ryan Group.
