The Sir John Carling Building was built in 1967 for the Department of Agriculture. It was an 11-storey building accommodating some 1,200 employees, with a 3-storey east wing for shipping and receiving and a single-storey cafeteria wing with a curved roof. Externally it was in a Brutalist meets International Modernism style. Over its lifetime, it suffered neglect despite being recognised as a federal heritage building and was imploded in 2014. The cafeteria wing is the only part of the building to remain.
