1967 – Bank of Ireland, Donegall Place, Belfast
Work began on the new branch of the Bank of Ireland in Donegall Place in 1964 and replaced an earlier bank by Sandham Symes. Finished with stainless steel vertical fins and granite cladding possibly to designs by Kenneth Kiersey who was Bank of Ireland architect at the time. This would be the bank’s largest premises and the central office for the business in Northern Ireland until the 1990s. Also, part of the development was a new Marks & Spencers which opened in September 1967. Video clip from Ulster Television of the architectural model. Featured on their banknotes, the building has since been redeveloped in 2007 and is unrecognisable.
