1966 – Colmstock House, Nos. 72-76 St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin
Architect: Desmond Fitzgerald & Downes Meehan & Robson
Three large office blocks were built around the same time along the south side of the Green – Canada House, Hainault House and this, the least architecturally accomplished of the three. Developed by a Dublin dentist, Colm MacDonnell, and a London financing group, the head of the UCD Architecture School Desmond Fitzgerald was responsible for obtaining the planning permission on the site and selling it to the developers. Five elegant Georgian Houses were demolished, a stucco ceiling from one on the Four Seasons, was rescued and is now in Dublin Castle. Let on a long lease to the Department of Justice, it has since been redeveloped circa 2006.
