Now extended to the rear, the original work of the Chief Schools Architect to the Office of Public Works is still discernable. Basil Boyd Barrett worked for the OPW from 1934 to the end of his career specialising in architecture and education. His work around this period included continuous glazing to the classrooms to maximise natural light for the children. the classrooms were usually delineated externally by a concrete element.
