1957 – Killyon Church, Hill of Down, Co. Meath
Architect: James Fehilly & Associates
Sited across the road from its predecessor of 1820, it is a striking modern church with campanile connected by a covered walkway. Designed in 1954, a large proportion of the work was done by voluntary labour, and records show that over 80 men a day were on site in the initial stages. Opened in 1957.
Between 2017 and 2018, the building was redesigned with the part demolition – removal of the rear of the building – and modernisation to a design by Patrick Gilsenan. This project was a winner in the 2019 RIAI Architecture Awards for Adaption and Re-use for Conservation and of an existing building.
