A Montreal intuition that closed suddenly in late January 1978 when the department store’s 700 employees had been told they need not return. The company that owned the store was bankrupt. Opened in 1868, the store moved a few times before settling permanently in 1882 at the corner of Saint-André and Sainte-Catherine streets, where it remained until its closure in 1978. Since demolished the site of the store has been redeveloped with several distinct buildings.
