1937 – Design for Bank of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario
Architect: Marani, Lawson & Morris
In December 1936, the architects presented these final drawings of a five-storey, stone-clad building in a stripped Neo-classical style. The façade features bronze centre doors and seven tall windows with bronze-and-marble accents. Construction started in 1938, with the building opening in 1938. Often cited as one of Canada’s best 20th-century buildings, the Bank of Canada complex now includes the 1979 Arthur Erickson-designed glass and copper addition that enfolds the original 1936 neoclassical stone bank and includes an 80-metre-high public atrium and tropical garden.
