A vast and over-blown cathedral by W.H. Byrne & Son with a seating capacity of 5,000. Building began in March 1933 with the foundation stone laid on 6 August, with the formal opening and dedication on 6 September 1936. The total cost of the building, including decoration, was £275,000. Much of the artistic decoration work was completed by Early & Co. of Camden Street, Dublin, and Oppenheimer Ltd., of Manchester.
