The Broadway Cinema opened on 12th December 1936 and was the largest of Belfast’s suburban cinemas, with a seating capacity of 1,500; 1,230 in the stalls and 270 in the circle. The building was Art Deco, with elaborate neon lighting, and the facade was covered in cream faiance tiles. Destroyed by fire on 31st January 1972 by the IRA during one of their bombing campaigns. Although the damage could have been repaired, the Broadway Cinema never re-opened.
