Named after the former dean of Arts, William Tier, this building opened in 1932 and has been the location of social science and humanities teaching and research ever since; the Faculty of Social Work is housed on the top floor. Designed by Arthur A. Stoughton, once head of Architecture, the rough limestone exterior was a radical change from the red brick of the original campus buildings.
