Drawings exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1930, with the church dedicated in 1932. Constructed on site of an earlier church retaining the facade to the quayside. A new facade was added 1957-61 creating the current odd composition. The exterior is finished in a clean Romanesque style with a large circular window to designs by J.R. Boyd Barret. In 1973 the altar and sanctuary were remodelled to conform to liturgical recommendations of Vatican II. The altar is made of Carrera marble, the mosaic Stations of the Cross along the walls are designed by Hubert McGoldrick (1897-1967) of An Túr Gloine and date from 1930. The windows provide many examples of Irish stained glass by Harry Clarke Studios, Early & Co., George Campbell, and Patrick Pye.
